Frederick Douglass visited Madison County, Indiana, twice. He first came in 1843 to deliver a speech and returned in 1892 to visit friends who helped save his life.
The notebooks documenting local African-American history have a special section in our Nicholson Research Library on the first floor. A comprehensive collection, twenty-five thick white binders hold the data, stories, pictures, and information on individuals, families, and cultural events of local African-American life.
